June 29, 2002-- The bright and vibrant colors often found on an island paradise, were worn proudly by those in attendance at Summer Caribbean Fest, an evening celebration held for State Senator David Scott this past weekend at the lakeside home of Mr. and Mrs. Hank Aaron.

The fanciful attire of the guests is indicative of the energy and excitement that surrounds supporters of David Scott’s campaign as a Candidate for the 13th Congressional District.  A number of close friends, colleagues, and family members made their presence known at the event, co-hosted by Ambassador and Mrs. Andrew Young, through verbal confirmations of their steadfast commitment to his cause, in addition to contributions.

Guests were invited to enjoy the tastes and sounds of  Jamaica via authentic cuisine by  Caribbean Breeze and entertainment provided by local musicians, including Atlanta Jazz Festival performers, Rio Negro.  Attendees even had the opportunity to win an all expenses paid trip to Montego Bay as well as participate in a traditional limbo contest.  The party kicked into high gear as legendary vocalist and former lead singer of The Temptations, Nate Evans crooned some of the groups more popular singles including “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” and “Since I Lost My Baby.”

Even the guest of honor joined in to provide back up on one of the memorable R&B ballads.

A very special and unanticipated moment in the evening was the unveiling of, famed artist, Gilbert Young’s latest masterpiece “Caribbean Dance of Two” which truly captured the essence of the evening.  Young will produce 200 prints of the original, with proceeds benefiting the David Scott campaign.

During the presentations Senator Scott emphasized the importance of remembering African Americans who “have paved the way,” not only uplifting the community, but  fighting for equal voting rights among all United States citizens.

Scott also graciously acknowledged attendees saying, “I am grateful for this outpouring...”

“This is an extraordinary race at an extraordinary time in the history of the world.  Whoever sits in the Congressional seat will have a voice on world issues.” said Scott of the importance of this years race for Congress.

In addition, he displayed his gratitude to the hosts of the event especially acknowledging the undying support and dedication of his wife, Alfredia Aaron Scott, who received a standing ovation.

Scott’s two daughters, Dayna and Marcye, also in attendance, will continue to run the 23 year old family business, Dayn-Mark Advertising, provided the campaign continues to achieve landmark success with voters.

The evening was an obvious success for the Scott campaign and from the looks of things a major accomplishment among the list of goals they vow to achieve on the road to Washington.
